Building a Legacy... One Design at a Time. As I sit in church every Sunday, I'm still amazed at what we ended up with after traveling a long, long road to get there. It's still so beautiful and elegant every time you walk in the doors. This past Sunday, I was daydreaming back to the days when the chapel was to the side of the altar and I was trying to remember how we had it configured. Wow, that was a long time ago, and I guess it was worth the wait because what we ended up with came out so nicely. Thanks again for all the hours and hours you put into making our project the best that it could be. You'll always know that a part of you is alive every day in Nassau Bay, Texas, at St. Paul. Katy Family YMCA Katy, Texas By the mid '90s, the YMCA facilities on the west side of greater Houston no longer satisfied the growing population of the area. Responding to the demand, the YMCA commissioned HBL Architects to develop a Master Plan. The Master Plan called for a 61,800-square-foot building, two swimming pools and parking. In addition, the plan added a gymnasium with fitness and aerobics rooms, locker rooms, multipurpose rooms and administrative offices. With the added space and new facilities, the expansion enabled Katy Family YMCA to better serve the community and provide more programs for families. Get to know: William W. A Little-Known Fact: Why was this building turned inside out? The Pompidou Center in Paris, designed by Richard Rogers, features a unique and somewhat outrageous inside-out type of architecture. Rogers designed the structure that way by placing all mechanical workings--escalators, ventilation ducts, even steel structural framework--on the outside of the building. In doing so, he was able to create large, uninterrupted, communal spaces within.
